This product is an aftermarket fridge fan. It is not an OEM-approved accessory for any caravan or refrigerator manufacturer.
Queensland Compliance Warning: 3-Way Fridges
Recent regulatory guidance issued in Queensland confirms that a 3-way (gas-fuelled) refrigerator may be considered non-compliant if a non-OEM fan is fitted for the purpose of removing heat from behind the fridge.
The Queensland regulator has stated:
“RSHQ has recently identified that aftermarket refrigerator cooling fans can be purchased to improve RV refrigerator cooling efficiency. The instructions indicate installation can be carried out by the owner.
Preliminary enquiries have identified these kits are not original equipment manufacturer (OEM) approved accessories. When installed on a gas fuelled refrigerator, operation of the cooling fan may adversely affect air flow at the rear of the appliance and cause incomplete combustion resulting in the production of carbon monoxide which is fatal at very low concentrations.
Gas work licence holders carrying out inspections on recreational vehicles should ensure they check that an aftermarket cooling fan has not been fitted. If they identify a fan has been fitted, they should advise the vehicle owner and with the owner’s agreement disconnect and remove the fan. If the owner does not agree, a gas system defect notice should be issued.”
Compliance Is the Purchaser’s Responsibility
By purchasing this product, you acknowledge and agree that any deviation from a refrigerator manufacturer’s installation instructions may render a fridge installation non-compliant in Queensland, which may include (without limitation):
non-OEM cooling fans;
non-OEM insect mesh fitted to fridge vents; and
any modification that alters airflow from the original design.
Australian Standards also require the gas burner and combustion area to be sealed from the living space. Compliance is assessed by reference to the refrigerator being installed exactly in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
The manufacturer and supplier do not represent or warrant that installation or use of this product:
is compliant in Queensland; or
will maintain existing compliance.
Non-compliance does not mean illegal
For the avoidance of doubt, the terms “non-compliant” and “non-compliance” as used in this notice refer to a failure to meet particular manufacturer’s installation instructions, standards, guidelines or regulatory requirements as assessed by an inspector or authority.
Non-compliance does not necessarily mean that the possession, purchase, installation or use of this product is unlawful or prohibited.
Whether a particular installation is lawful, permitted, restricted or subject to enforcement action depends on the specific circumstances, including the type of refrigerator, method of installation, applicable standards and the interpretation and discretion of the relevant regulator or inspector.
The manufacturer makes no representation or warranty as to whether any given use of the product is lawful or compliant.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the manufacturer and supplier accept no liability for any loss, damage, cost, or consequence arising from:
non-compliance with Queensland laws, regulations, or standards;
defect notices, enforcement action, or inspection outcomes;
required removal or disconnection of the product; and/or
modification or re-installation of the refrigerator or caravan.
If a licensed gas fitter or inspector requires removal of the product, removal is the purchaser’s responsibility. Our fridge fans are very easy to remove if a gas fitter requests it during an inspection.
