What's the difference between the Twin 90mm KavityKoola and the Single 120mm version?
The main difference is the mounting shape. Using two 90mm fans creates a thinner mounting planform, which can make the Twin 90mm version better suited to cavities where the available mounting space doesn't suit a larger single fan.
The twin-fan arrangement also provides some redundancy. If one fan fails, the second fan can continue operating until the failed fan can be replaced.
Why would I use two 90mm fans instead of one larger fan?
Primarily because of the available mounting dimensions. Two 90mm fans can be arranged in a thinner mounting planform than one larger fan, which may fit better in narrow or awkward cavities.
There's also an element of redundancy. If one fan fails, you've still got one fan operating to help keep air moving until the problem can be sorted.
What can I use the Twin 90mm KavityKoola fans to cool?
The Twin 90mm KavityKoola is designed to remove excess heat from enclosed cavities in caravans and RVs. It can be used around equipment such as compressor fridges, inverters, battery chargers and other devices that generate heat while operating.
Can the Twin 90mm fans be mounted vertically or horizontally?
Yes. The twin-fan layout gives you more flexibility when working with the available cavity space, so the fans can be arranged to suit the installation.
The important part is creating a sensible airflow path through the cavity rather than simply moving air around one small area.
Does the Twin 90mm KavityKoola run automatically when the cavity gets hot?
Yes. The temperature controller monitors the cavity and operates the fans when cooling is required. They don't need to run continuously when the cavity temperature is already under control.
Where should I position the temperature probe?
The probe can remain in its mounting to monitor the ambient air temperature inside the cavity. It can also be removed and taped directly to equipment such as an inverter or battery charger if you'd rather monitor that device itself.
This gives you the choice between controlling the fans from general cavity temperature or directly from the temperature of the equipment being cooled.
Where should the inlet vents be positioned for the best airflow?
Position the inlet vents so incoming air has to travel around the equipment that needs cooling before reaching the exhaust fans. You want the air moving through the cavity, not taking the shortest possible route straight from an inlet vent to the fans.
If the inlet is too close to the fans, they may draw air from only a small section of the cabinet. That can leave the rest of the cavity with poor airflow and create hot spots around the equipment.
Do the Twin 90mm fans blow air into the cavity or extract hot air?
They're designed to extract hot air from the cavity. The fans draw heated air from inside the cabinet and exhaust it out, allowing cooler replacement air to enter through the inlet vents and move past the equipment being cooled.
