What can I use the Klevacool KavityKoola 120mm fan to cool?
The KavityKoola 120mm is designed to remove excess heat from enclosed cavities in caravans and RVs. It can be used to ventilate areas containing equipment such as compressor fridges, inverters, battery chargers and other gear that produces heat while operating.
Will a cavity cooling fan help a drawer-style compressor fridge in hot weather?
Yes, if heat is building up in the cavity around the fridge. Compressor fridges need somewhere for the heat they remove from inside the fridge to go. The KavityKoola draws hot air out of the cavity, helping cooler replacement air move through the space around the fridge.
Does the KavityKoola fan run all the time?
No. The temperature controller monitors the cavity and operates the fan when cooling is required. This means the fan doesn't need to run continuously when the cavity temperature is already under control.
Can I use a KavityKoola fan to cool an inverter or battery charger compartment?
Yes. The KavityKoola can be used to ventilate cavities containing equipment such as inverters and battery chargers where excess heat needs to be removed.
The temperature probe can also be removed from its mounting and attached directly to the device you want to monitor.
Where should I position the temperature probe?
The probe can be left in its mounting if you want the controller to monitor the ambient air temperature inside the cavity. If you'd prefer to monitor a particular device, such as an inverter or battery charger, the probe can be removed and taped directly to that device.
This lets you choose whether the controller responds to the general cavity temperature or the temperature of the equipment you're trying to keep cool.
Should the KavityKoola fan blow air into the cavity or extract hot air out?
The KavityKoola is designed to extract hot air from the cavity. It draws air from inside the cavity and exhausts it out, which in turn allows cooler replacement air to enter through the inlet vents.
Where should the inlet vents be positioned?
Position the inlet vents so incoming air has to travel around the equipment that needs cooling before reaching the exhaust fan. This creates an airflow path through the cavity rather than cooling only one small section.
If an inlet vent is positioned too close to the fan, the fan can simply draw air from that nearby vent. The rest of the cabinet may then receive very little airflow, leaving hot spots around the equipment you're actually trying to cool.
Is the KavityKoola 120mm fan noisy?
It's designed for applications where the fan may be operating inside a caravan or RV, so excessive fan noise isn't desirable. The temperature controller also means it only needs to run when the cavity requires cooling rather than operating continuously.
