📏 VENT CLEARANCE MEASUREMENT:
To ensure proper fitment, the required mimimum of 70mm clearance must be measured from the outside wall of the van to the closest object inside the vent cavity.

This includes any obstacles such as fins, pipes, hoses, cables, or even wood framing that may be inside the vent's plastic frame.

How do I know if these fans will fit my vent?

• Measure from edge to edge both horizontally & vertically.

• If your measurements are close to those shown in the pic below (+/- 5mm), we’ll have a kit to suit.

Frequently asked questions

Will the Klevacool small vent kit fit my caravan fridge vent?

It suits the smaller Dometic and Thetford upper fridge vents, which measure roughly 480mm x 185mm.

Measure your vent edge to edge, both across and up and down. If you're within about 5mm of those sizes, we'll have a kit to suit. If you're still not sure which vent you've got, our fan selector will point you to the right kit.

How much clearance do I need behind the vent?

At least 70mm, measured from the outside wall of the van to the closest thing inside the vent cavity.

That includes cooling fins, pipes, hoses, cables and any timber framing behind the vent's plastic frame. Good engineering in the kit still can't create clearance where the caravan builder left none.

If you're short on space, our spacer plates add 10mm, 20mm or 30mm of depth to the vent, or the Universal Fit kit may suit.

Which vent type do I choose from the drop-down?

Match your upper vent to the photos on this page, then pick late Dometic, early Dometic (which also covers older Electrolux vents) or Thetford.

Older vents held in with twist clips take the early Dometic kit. If your vent has no exhaust outlet built into it, choose the "no exhaust outlet" version of your vent type.

Why does the kit use 3D printed mounting plates?

Because we tried it without them first.

Our first set of fridge fans was basically two fans strapped to the vent with zip ties. They worked, but getting them into the right position so they fitted properly and didn't interfere with removing and refitting the vent was, to put it politely, problematic. The mounting plates hold the fans in the right spot, and a quick-disconnect connector lets the vent come off for maintenance without cutting anything.

Why do the fans go in the upper vent?

Hot air rises behind the fridge and leaves through the upper vent, so that's where the fans do their work. Pulling the hot air out draws cooler air in through the lower vent and past the fridge's cooling components.

We leave the lower vent alone because the burner on a 3-way fridge normally sits down there.

Will the fans work when my fridge is running on gas or 240V?

Yes. The fans remove heat from behind the fridge, so they do their job whichever power source the fridge is running on. They don't touch the fridge's gas or 240V system.

How much power do the small vent fans use?

Up to 0.25A for both fans, which is a maximum of 6Ah a day if they ran flat out around the clock.

The system only runs the fans when the temperature behind the vent reaches the set point, and runs them slower when full speed isn't needed, so most days they'll use less.

Can I wire the fans straight to the battery?

You can, but it’s not our preferred method. Connecting directly to the battery bypasses any low-voltage protection your van's battery system has.

Run them from your van's battery management system instead. The kit includes 4 metres of wire, a fuse holder and two 3A fuses. If you're not comfortable running the wiring, your local auto electrician or caravan repairer can do it.

What happens if something blocks a fan?

The fan stops, then restarts by itself once the blades are clear, so a stray leaf or a mud wasp nest won't burn the motor out.

The controller also has an over-temperature alarm that sounds if it gets too hot behind the vent.

Do I need the Klevacool Remote?

No. The system runs automatically without it.

The fans are quiet enough that you often can't tell whether they're running. The Klevacool Remote shows you what they're doing from inside the van and lets you switch them on or off when you want to.

Can I add internal fridge fans at the same time?

Yes. Choose an internal fan kit from the drop-down when you order and the discount is applied automatically. There are kits for 3-way fridges with cooling fins and for upright compressor fridges.

The internal fans can be connected to the Klevacool vent fan system, so they run automatically with it.
