Frequently asked questions
Do internal caravan fridge fans actually work?
Yes. Internal fridge fans circulate the cold air around the fridge cabinet. That reduces the temperature differences between different areas and cuts down frost build-up on the cooling fins. How much difference they make depends on the fridge, how it's being used and the conditions it's operating in.
Will an internal fridge fan make my 3-way fridge colder?
Not necessarily. An internal fan doesn't change the temperature you've set the fridge to. Its main job is to circulate the cold air, reducing hot and cold spots, keeping temperatures more even throughout the fridge and reducing frost build-up on the cooling fins.
If your 3-way fridge gets warmer as the outside temperature rises, the problem may be heat building up behind the fridge. That's where external fridge fans are more likely to help.
Will the Klevacool internal fridge fans stop frost building up?
They'll reduce frost build-up, and in some fridges they may virtually eliminate it. How well they do this depends on several things: humidity, the condition of the door seals, the fridge temperature setting, how often the door is opened and how much frost you consider acceptable.
The fans keep air moving across the cooling fins and around the fridge cabinet, instead of letting very cold, damp air sit around the fins.
Which Klevacool internal fridge fan kit do I need, twin or triple?
Choose the twin fan kit for fridges of 100 litres or less, and the triple fan kit for fridges over 100 litres. The larger fridge gets the extra fan to provide airflow across its wider cooling-fin area.
Will the Klevacool internal fridge fans fit my 3-way fridge if it already has a fan?
Yes, provided your fridge has exposed cooling fins at the rear inside the fridge cabinet. Our fan systems are designed to fit the different internal fin arrangements used in 3-way fridges, including fridges that already have an internal fan that isn't doing the job.
A small number of fridge models have the cooling fins completely covered by a plate. These aren't suitable, because there's nowhere for the Klevacool fan assembly to clip onto.
What if my fridge doesn't have cooling fins?
This kit clips onto the cooling fins inside the fridge, so it needs exposed fins to mount on. For fridges without fins, use one of our compressor fridge internal fan kits instead:
Compact Single for fridges under 100 litres

Adjustable for fridges with a compressor bulge inside the cabinet
Do I still need internal fridge fans if I already have external fridge fans?
They do different jobs, so many 3-way fridges benefit from both. External fridge fans remove excess heat from behind the fridge. Internal fans circulate cold air inside the fridge cabinet to even out temperatures and reduce frost build-up.
The Klevacool internal fan system can also operate completely independently if you don't have external fans.
How much power do the Klevacool internal fridge fans use?
The twin fan kit draws 0.16A in total, and the triple fan kit draws 0.22A. If they ran non-stop for 24 hours, that's a maximum of 3.8Ah a day for the twin and 5.3Ah a day for the triple.
In practice they'll usually use less, because the thermostat switches the fans off when they're not needed.
Are the Klevacool internal fridge fans easy to connect?
Yes. There are only two wires to connect to a suitable 12V power source behind the fridge.
We supply the fuse holder and fuses with the kit. The fuse holder is fitted in the positive power feed to protect the wiring.
Where does the internal fridge fan wire go?
The best option is normally to run the cable through the fridge's drain hole. Our cable is very thin, so it passes through the hole without stopping water from draining normally.
If your fridge doesn't have a drain hole, the cable can usually be routed alongside the thermostat capillary tube or thermistor wiring instead.
Will the fans blow cold air out when I open the fridge door?
Without the optional Klevacool Door Switch, they'll keep circulating air while the door is open. With the Door Switch installed, the fans automatically turn off and the built-in LED lights turn on when you open the fridge door.
Close the door and the fans go back to normal operation. This reduces cold air loss while the fridge door is open.
Can I add a door switch to Klevacool internal fans I already have?
Yes, if your fans have a V3 controller. The easiest way to check is to look for a "DOOR SW" option on your fans. If it's there, you've got a V3 and you can fit our Door Switch Kit.
An upgrade kit for earlier controllers that are mounted horizontally is in the works, but it isn't available yet. Earlier fans with vertically mounted controllers can't be fitted with a door switch, because there isn't enough room to run the cables.
Will mounting the fans on the cooling fins cause vibration or noise?
No, not with the fans we use. Klevacool fans are dynamically balanced to minimise vibration, and they use twin rubber-sealed ball bearings for smooth, quiet operation.
They clip directly onto the fridge's cooling fins, so there's no drilling or permanent modification to the fridge cabinet.
